    Altec HiFi Catalogue

Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.

    Thanks for posting!

I'm guessing that's circa 1951-1953. Note that the description on the 700A Melodist specifies "special 10 inch speaker". That's the 756 they're referring to i'm pretty sure.

I especially like the picture of "Dad" on the last page. He looks so 'hip' what with his pipe, leaning on the A7, man why couldn't I have had a Dad like that?
Nothing like a great big pair of speakers to make your day.

Very expensive equipment indeed for the early 1950's. Altec was a rich man's product. Certainly a classic case of "You get what you pay for".

I'd gladly pay 159$ for one of the 30 watt tube amps now.

I thought the 511 came out before the 811 until I saw that catalog, but I guess the 511 was a further development of the 811, instead of vice versa.

I always liked the Voice of the Highway ad... A pair of A7's in the back of a convertible is Priceless !

If you ever enjoyed music in a car this was the way to go...

It says the amp runs the tubes in class A too. Bet the amp sounds great.

Even at an inflated ~$1231, it's tantamount to highway robbery for Class A with such wide ranging adjustable DF [tone] controls. At that price, I could tri-amp a system with them and still have $$$ left over compared to similar available these days.
